Why nilamlawxra

The qualities that shape our practice.

Measured Counsel

We do not push toward unnecessary proceedings. Each matter is assessed on its own terms, and the client's long-term wellbeing is held alongside the immediate legal question.

Full Discretion

Family circumstances are private. The firm handles all matters with the seriousness that personal information deserves, and maintains strict confidentiality throughout.

Clear Communication

Legal processes can be bewildering. We set out each stage in plain terms and keep clients informed of developments without unnecessary complexity or alarm.

Unhurried Approach

There is rarely a good reason to rush family proceedings. Where the pace allows for careful preparation and negotiation, the firm takes that time on the client's behalf.

Singapore Expertise

The firm's practice is grounded in Singapore law and the Family Justice Courts. We are familiar with the procedural requirements and the practical expectations of local proceedings.

Child-Centred Outlook

In matters involving children, the firm keeps their interests at the centre of every decision. We work toward arrangements that give children stability and continuity wherever possible.

Begin when you are ready

A first conversation costs little
and may clarify a great deal.

The Pavilion Sitting is designed for exactly this purpose — a quiet, structured first meeting with no obligation to proceed further.

Common questions

Things people often ask.

What should I bring to the first sitting?
It helps to bring any relevant documents — a marriage certificate, existing court orders, or financial statements — but these are not required. The sitting is principally a conversation. You may also bring a list of questions you have been holding; there is no expectation that the meeting follow a particular structure.
How long does a divorce proceeding typically take in Singapore?
An uncontested divorce, where both parties have reached agreement on all ancillary matters, may be concluded within three to six months. Where matters are contested — particularly those involving custody, maintenance, or the division of matrimonial assets — proceedings can extend considerably longer. The firm will give you a realistic picture of likely timelines at the first sitting.
Is mediation appropriate for all custody disputes?
Mediation works well when both parties are willing to engage with some degree of good faith. Where there is a significant power imbalance, a history of harm, or one party is not participating meaningfully, mediation may not be the most suitable path. The firm will discuss this candidly before recommending a course of action.
Do your fees cover the entire matter or are they charged by the hour?
The fees shown on this site reflect the initial scope of each service. Where a matter becomes more involved — for instance, where court hearings multiply or negotiations extend — additional fees may apply. The firm will always discuss any change in fee structure with you before proceeding, and will not take any step that has not been agreed.
Can I speak with someone before committing to a sitting?
Yes. You are welcome to send a brief note via the form on this page, or to call the office directly. A member of the firm will respond within one working day and can answer general questions about whether your matter falls within the firm's practice before any sitting is arranged.
